You will have all seen the guidance published on 27th March 2020 by the government: Coronavirus (COVID-19): safeguarding in schools, colleges and other providers.
In this it was mentioned that “It is important schools and colleges (led by a DSL or deputy, wherever possible) review and revise their child protection policy and keep it under review as circumstances continue to evolve. In some cases, a COVID-19 annex/addendum that summaries any key COVID-19 related changes might be more effective that re-writing and re-issuing the whole policy”
By now you may have created your own appendix. If not, a template is provided for your guidance which has been edited to highlight where you would need to add your school name and details for DSL’s DDSL’s and specific safeguarding recording procedures.

Since schools and education settings have closed, referrals to children’s social services have fallen dramatically. With millions of children remaining at home, there is a hidden group of children potentially at risk of abuse or neglect who are having much less interaction with statutory services.
To help protect these children, the NSPCC is receiving £1.6 million of government funding to expand and promote the helpline. The NSPCC are still here for children, and this service is open every day with free support for anyone who’s worried about a child – over the phone, via email or through our online form.
